Education

BA - CSU Fullerton - high honors. While I was working on the BA, I was also working as a Bilingual Instructional Aide in Orange and Santa Ana Unified School Districts. I fell in love with medieval literature as an undergraduate, but the BA is a place for general studies. I took lots of Oral Interpretive courses - for children, Shakespeare, etc. and plenty of history. MA - CSU Fullerton - high honors. This is where I started working as a tutor. We tutored any student who wanted help with his/her essay in 20-30 minute sessions. This included Business English, English 101, English 99, and any other English course on campus. My final year, I was given my own English 101 class, and I became a professional teacher. My MA thesis was called, "Medieval Mums." It was about how mothers were seen through the lens of various kinds of medieval literature: romances, religious verse, sermons, ballads, etc. I also took courses in John Donne, Milton, Shakespeare, Chaucer, and lots of other cool stuff. PhD - UC Riverside - incomplete. I finished the coursework, but I had to take a break from the testing and writing my thesis. I have been teaching Composition at the university level for twelve years. I have taught Eng 99, 101, 1A, 1B, 1C, Eng 4, and Basic Writing 3. I have also helped people edit letters, Personal Statements, job applications and resumes, essays, theses, etc. Now that I'm retired, I have afternoons free to help you.

Experience

Patient, Professional, Thorough, Friendly! I love helping people achieve their goals of getting into a university, learning a new set of skills, or becoming a stronger reader or writer! I have worked with students from 5-50 years of age. Some of my students have had learning disabilities (undiagnosed or with IEPs), but some people just need a little refresher course offered with humor, patience and plenty of encouragement to be able to reach their goals. I love the challenge of being a tutor - working with one student (or small groups) to help each person become a better reader, writer, or test taker. I have taught English Composition at three universities for almost 15 years, and I tutored for 5 years at Santa Ana College, CSU Fullerton, Professional Tutors of America, and Wyzant. I am a writer and retired lecturer from University of California, Riverside. Four times, I was privileged to be one of the educators who graded the UC written entrance exams. I have edited academic books and theses.

Hobbies

My husband and I have five children. Three of them served as US Marines. I have a soft spot for those who serve our country. I love animals, good books, and a wide variety of music - everything but rap and jazz. One of my favorite things to do is to learn new things. Right now, I am writing a book about my husband's life in a small town in Mexico.
